What would you think of this strange situation,
With Billy the Bat and the cave congregation.
Every evening, at twilight, there’s a mass exodus,
They yell back at Billy: “Hey! Why don’t you join us?”
It’s magic to watch, like a dark swarming cloud,
Of bats flying forth, they’re a black floating shroud.
Yet Billy refuses to fly with the others,
Including his parents and sisters and brothers.
They all venture forth on their evening excursions,
They fly forth en masse on their feasting dispersions.
At sundown they exit the cave to hunt down mosquitos
They eat up gnats and bugs, but never any Fritos.
Why does Billy stay home by himself in his room?
With his small shining flashlight to fend off the gloom.
Poor Billy is left hanging upside-down in the cave,
He says to his lonesome, “I wish I were brave.”
For Billy has this condition that gives him grave fright
Believe it or not, he’s afraid of the night.
